James Houston was an American author and adventurer who was known for his writings about the outdoors and his experiences traveling and living in remote areas of the world. He was born in Washington, D.C. in 1935, and he grew up in the suburbs of the city.

Houston began his career as a writer in the 1960s, and he quickly became known for his vivid and descriptive writing style, which often featured detailed accounts of his adventures in the wilderness. He wrote a number of books about his travels and experiences, including "The Boat Man" and "Further Flights Around the Horn."

In addition to his writing, Houston was also an accomplished outdoorsman and adventurer. He spent many years traveling and living in remote areas of the world, including the Amazon rainforest and the Arctic, and he was known for his love of the outdoors and his dedication to conservation and environmental causes.

Houston passed away in 2015 at the age of 79. He is remembered as one of the most influential and beloved authors and adventurers of his time, and his work continues to inspire and influence new generations of outdoor enthusiasts and writers.
